Floor Anchoring Requirements
Use this information to learn how to anchor (attach) the unit to the facility flooring. The installation requirements described in this section must be adhered to confirm a Precor approved installation.
Floor material requirements
Concrete is the only permitted and approved floor material type.
Minimum concrete depth by anchor type:
- Expansion anchors: 4” (10mm) concrete minimum is required for expansion anchor use
- Expansion anchors must have 3-1/4” (8mm) minimum embedment
- Chemical anchors: 4.5” (12mm) concrete minimum is required for chemical anchor use
- Chemical anchors must have 4” (10mm) minimum embedment
WARNING: The unit towers and floor fixings must be mounted directly on the concert surface. Any floor coverings must be removed from underneath the towers and floor fixings. Pads and subflooring can cause premature loosening of fasteners causing possible hardware failure and harm to exercisers. |
Anchor bolt requirements
Torque specification
Floor anchor bolt torque specification: 37 ft-lbs, (50 Nm)
Approved anchor bolt types
Only the following two types of concrete anchor bolts are approved for use.
- Expansion anchor
- Hilti Kwik bolt TZ carbon steel 1/2 in x 4-1/2 in (1.3 x 11.4 cm) expansion anchor bolt (or equivalent).
- Hilti Kwik bolt TZ carbon steel 1/2 in x 4-1/2 in (1.3 x 11.4 cm) expansion anchor bolt (or equivalent).
- Chemical anchor
- Hilti Anchor rod HAS-E 5.8 in x 6 in ( 1.6 cm x 15.2cm) threaded rod and Hilti HIT-HY 200-A Injectable mortar (or equivalent).
- Hilti Anchor rod HAS-E 5.8 in x 6 in ( 1.6 cm x 15.2cm) threaded rod and Hilti HIT-HY 200-A Injectable mortar (or equivalent).
Anchor bolt installation Summary
The minimum anchor penetration depth requirement is determined by the expansion bolt type. Make sure that the concrete floor depth can support the required anchor bolt depth:
- Expansion anchors must have minimum 3-1/4” (8mm) embedment
- Chemical anchors must have minimum 4” (10mm) embedment
The anchor must be installed perpendicular (90°) to the floor surface.
WARNING: The anchor bolt must be installed perpendicular to the floor surface or the anchor bolt can loosen with use compromising the connection. This will allow the unit to lift during use causing possible harm to the exerciser or damage to the unit structure. |
WARNING: Review the site survey prior to ANY drilling and make sure that there are no conditions or obstacles (such as electrical conduit, post-tension rebar, etc.) that could cause personal or facility damage while drilling. |
Anchor Type | Parameter | Specification | |
---|---|---|---|
Expansion Anchor | Concrete Depth1 | 4” (10 cm) | |
Expansion Anchor | Anchor Size | 1/2 in x 4-1/2 in (1.3 x 11.4 cm) | |
Expansion Anchor | Minimum embedment Depth1 | 3-1/4” (8mm) minimum embedment | |
Chemical Anchor | Concrete Depth2 | 4.5” (12 cm) | |
Chemical Anchor | Anchor Size | 5.8 in x 6 in ( 1.6 cm x 15.2cm) | |
Chemical Anchor | Minimum embedment Depth2 | 4” (10mm) minimum embedment | |
All | TorqueTorque is a measure of the force that can cause an object to rotate about an axis. Bolt/nut example: 5 nM torque is equivalent to 5 newtons of force applied one meter from the center of the bolt, 6 ft-lb is equivalent to 6 lb of force applied 1 foot away from the center of the bolt. | 37 ft-lbs, (50 Nm) | |
Notes: 1) Expansion anchors must have minimum 3-1/4” (8mm) embedment. Notes: 2) Chemical anchors must have minimum 4” (10mm) embedment. |
